Our approach to encryption

People often ask what exactly is encrypted and when.

Files are encrypted on your device with a key derived from your password before anything leaves the computer. We store only the encrypted data and never see the key, which means we cannot read your files and cannot reset your password for you, so keep your recovery code somewhere safe.

Metadata such as file sizes and timestamps is needed to sync efficiently and is protected both in transit and at rest.
